In honor of the legacy and life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, The Waycross Branch NAACP held its Annual 38 years Commemoration/Freedom Fund Banquet. The theme for this year’s event was “Thriving Together and Raising the Bar.” Serving as the Master of Ceremony was Griffin Lotson. Elder Edward O. DuBose, member of the National Board of Directors, was the Keynote Speaker for the evening.
Griffin Lotson is proudly serving his City, State, USA, and Central/West Africa as a historian and organizer. Lotson currently serves as the following:

Federal Government Vice Chairman: Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission
Chief Executive Officer: Sams Memorial Community Economic Development Inc
Manager of the Historical Cultural Internationally acclaimed “ Geechee Gullah Ring Shouters”
Global and State Goodwill Ambassador
Griffin Lotson has served as a White House consultant on Community and Economic Development. Lotson has been featured in several motion pictures productions and new media worldwide, including being the Chief Choreographer for the new Roots Movie series. He is currently working with Charmaine Minniefield, the cultural keeper of the “Praise House.” Griffin Lotson has worked with the Federal Government Library of Congress as lead consultant and historian for the famous Kumbaya song and its history that is known by over 1 billion individuals worldwide.
Elder Edward DuBose was born in Atlanta, GA, and is the third oldest of ten children. He holds an Associate Degree in General Education, Baccalaureate Degree in Business Administration, and a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Psychology. DuBose is the owner of Everlasting Peace Counseling and Support services which provides mental health counseling for at-risk youth and families throughout the state of Georgia and Alabama. He serves as the President of the Columbus Branch NAACP, and is in his 4th term of the NAACP National Board of Directors. A few of Elder DuBose Accomplishment includes:
Organizing and leading effective protests.
Playing a key role in the six resulted in the release of Genarlow Wilson, Carolyn Brown, William Jonathon Mayo, John McNeil, Nathan Dwight, and Lathan Word.
Leading the Georgia State Conference NAACP in securing a landmark Voter Registration Lawsuit Settlement against the State of Georgia.
Elder DuBose has received numerous awards for his work as a Civil Rights leader. Some of his awards include, but are not limited to the following:

Among the many attendees were leaders, panelists, and influencers including Dr. Michael James (Mayor of Waycross, NAACP Life Member), Ms. Tonza Thomas (Executive Director of GA State Conference NAACP, NAACP Life Member), Mr. Kelvin Blue (1st Vice Chair of Congressional District One Democratic Party of GA, NAACP Life Member), and Mr. Larry Lockey (President Waycross Branch NAACP).
